  What did the Watchtower Soceity REALLY say about 1975?

  the all knowing god?

  dont know if this has been discussed or not...but.... it always bothered me when people claimed that god is all knowing... what exactly does that really mean or can mean?.

  after all, according to all, there was some point when only god existed and so its pretty easy to be all knowing when there is nothing to know.. but why should we assume that a being who had no one teach him and nothing to learn from could be anything but insane?.

  we should trust god, some have told me, because he made everything and therefore knows everything about what he made... sorry, but that does not follow at all.. my subconscious, apparently, seems to be able to manifest many dreams of very complex things which leaves me puzzled as to their workings not understanding them at all..... the bible shows god to be less than all knowing on many occasions, especially in genesis 18:20-21 where he is going to investigate a report that has come to him.... from where or who we are not told.... but it makes it clear he is desiring to find out if the report is accurate or not... .

  anger, suprize and pain are all indications of less than all knowingness when they are picked apart...and the bible god manifests them all.

  as to this concept that somebeing or any being can stand outside of all of reality and see it like a painting, there are some very great flaws that few seem to notice or care about... it presumes that all times already exist... something for which zero evidence exists and the bible itself does not make such a claim anywhere.

  it also makes god, who presumably is the sole creator, completely responsible and unable to blame anyone for anything as the concept of freewill, which has its own problems, could not be possible if all times have eternally existed or exist as of the point god created them.

  this really silly argument that just because god knows what will happen, does not make him responsible because he did not do it? how can it not if everything exists at once for god and he made it all?

  by definition the future is what has not yet happened and therefore there is nothing to know, only to guess at... and the notion that god does actually KNOW the future is irrational. the bible god mostly is found saying this is what will come to pass because I will MAKE IT HAPPEN not because he foresees it.

  the so called proof of God's omnscience, the prophecies are none too impressive... the new testament makes many bold claims that Jesus did such and such to fulfill such and such in the old, yet a careful read of the old reveals that this is fraud...they are take verses completely out of context that have nothing to do with the Jesus and if about a coming messiah, the expectation was failed as they refer to someone in their time period not hundreds of years later. anyone can read an event into the bible backwards, but so far hardly anyone and no one I know, has been able to use the bible to predict something in advance and then watch it occur on schedule.... even the new test. makes mention that the supposed fulfillments were completely alien to those alive at the time.

  why won't witnesses use tv or radio?

  the radio was used extensively in the 1920's and 1930's.

  by 1933 the society was using 403 radio stations to broadcast bible lectures.

  later, the use of the radio was largely replaced by increased house-to-house visits by witnesses with portable phonographs and recorded bible talks.

  I recall several times they had a movie from the tower fest... one was on bethel and the farm in NY... the voice over sounded like they picked

  the nerdiest guy on site... worse than the school lecture slide show voice overs.

  My revenge against the WTS

  hi folks, .

  after 7 months out of the cult and my 20e birthday approaching (next week) i sorted out what i would do with my life.

  after i exited the borg i thought about various plans like touring the world or infiltering the congregation and fight the borg or becoming a professional musician (music is a hobbie for me).

  out why people do what they do, and sometimes I have been able to do just that.... mostly I find too many variables and people seem to be

  rarely honest about their inner workings... sometimes not even realizing it.

  fantasy god[s] to be comprehendible, that is what doomed the pagan gods

  trinitarians often give the stupidest reasons for believing it.

  i attended two days of the dc.

  the only three points that i took home with me is that the end is near, higher education is a no no, and that the brothers have a problem with pornography.

  i was in amazement at the number of witnesses that take notes as fast as the speaker is talking.

  i decided post jws that i was walking the walk and talking the talk but deep down...wasnt buying it.

  i really wasnt.

  but i couldnt say anything to anybody because that was part of what was expected of us.

  well there is the paradox... .faith tells you that you see the emporer's new clothes with the eyes of faith not your actual eyes...

  only the faithful SAW the invisible presence of Jesus in 1914, only the faithful SEE the invisible God, etc.

  so no, I did not see, but did not expect to either...but I was always on the watch for just about anything that would confirm this

  as more than just a hope that seemed to be false...something tangible, some magic, something to validate the faith...

  but HAPPY ARE THOSE WHO BELIEVE WITHOUT SEEING

  Reading the Bible Made Me Leave "The Truth" – & Christianity

  i was looking up a couple of verses the other day in my nwt reference bible the one with larger print, footnotes, cross references, etc.

  in my day i was quite a diligent student - the bible is filled with my notes and comments, and i'd already worn out another one earlier.

  one of the things that i found surprising as i was reading my notes, was how often they were pointing out inconsistencies, contradictions and obvious lies in the biblical text.

  not until after I had been long gone did I realize that Jesus could never, in the mind of any christian be seen to ever have said a single thing wrong.

  Matt 24, specifically tells those then alive that THEIR GENERATION would not pass away until they saw ALL THE THINGS he had mentioned, which included the fall of Jerusalem and the return of Jesus as king to judge the world....

  the term THIS GENERATION is used by Jesus in about Nine different places in the 4 gospels and always has the same basic meaning... those alive at the time who were distinguished from previous generations who were not alive to see him in person.

  its easy to forget by just reading matthew 24, that jesus was speaking aloud to these people and telling THEM, that THIS GENERATION will not pass... and it seems that many historians believe that early christians were literally waiting for it to happen in THEIR DAY.

  seems that Paul was telling people, if they did not BURN they should be as he was, Celibate, as the end was so near and John telling people we KNOW this is the last hour because Anti-christ is among us...etc.

  but since all that would make Jesus a FALSE prophet, no christian can ever be permitted to even think along those lines....can they :))

  I also re-examined Numbers 31, where after a battle was won, and the men had saved out the women and children, Moses, in a RAGE told them that they had learned nothing from their previous encounters [regarding their own weaknesses] and order the murder of defenseless women and male children... they could rape the little girls though....

  how sick is that? and yet this WAR criminal is the foundation of the entire bible story.

  What's the BIGGEST LIE you ever heard?

  someone i knew stood up at the convention to answer her two baptism questions both with a "yes".

  she was having an affair with a married brother at the time.. but i'd top my 'biggest lie' list with four small words; "in the beginning, god"

  Prediction of large drop in JW numbers in 2014

  i am going to make the prediction, here and now in mid 2006, that there will be a significant drop in the number of jehovah's witnesses in the year 2014, the one hundredth anniversary of 1914.. the only way this drop in numbers might be avoided is if the watchtower society can think up some way to stir up the rank and file and get them motivated to do more, like they did with the 1975 fiasco.. .

  i doubt very much that the watchtower magazine is going to proclaim loudly in the year 2014 anything about the "generation of 1914" not passing away.. --vm44

  seems to me that by 2014 JWs will have evolved to another sort of religion and proclaim themselves

  the way to the way even louder but for totally different reasons, 1914 will be quitely retired and by 2014

  those JWs won't even know it was signifcant.... case in point, I started studying in 1975 and never heard a

  peep about 1975 until well into the late 80s
